Physics Alternating Current Statement Based MCQ (Single Correct)

Given below are two statements.

Statement I: An AC circuit undergoes electrical resonance if it contains either a capacitor or an inductor.
Statement II: An AC circuit containing a pure capacitor or a pure inductor consumes high power due to its nonzero power factor.
In the right of above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below.

A
Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
B
Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
C
Statement I is false but Statement II is true.
D

The correct answer is:
A

Electrical resonance phenomenon is exhibited by a circuit, only when voltage across inductor L and capacitor C will cancel out each other (as, they are out of phase).
The power of pure capacitor and pure inductor is zero. As, voltage and current in both the cases are out of phase with each other by . Therefore, the power factor of both is zero and they have no internal resistance. Hence, both statement I and statement II are false.
